Chabad Jewish Center, at 1236 E. 57th, provides social, educational, recreational, and religious programming for students, with Friday night dinners in a home-like setting with great friends, superb food and stimulating discussions. Classes and lectures on a variety of topics related to Judaism are offered regularly. Chabad also offers Birthright Israel trips and the Sinai Scholars Society. All are welcome, regardless of background, affiliation or orientation.

The University of Chicago Hillel, at the Newberger Hillel Jewish Center, located at 5715 S. Woodlawn, offers a warm, friendly setting where Jews of all stripes can mingle, have fun, and learn together. The Jewish Students Association celebrates all aspects of the Jewish community by promoting student engagement in social, cultural, and religious contexts, and also encourages cultural exchange by interacting with diverse religious and ideological organizations. Among other groups linked to Hillel are fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi, Chicago Friends of Israel, a cappella group Chicago Rhythm and Jews, student-led Orthodox minyan Yavneh, and social justice group Jewish Action.

Jewish Action is a social justice group that champions pragmatic activism on campus, reflecting Judaism’s strong commitment to putting beliefs into practice. JA believes that a well-rounded activism combines direct service with informed advocacy and so offers opportunities for both volunteer projects and education. Members of the University of Chicago community from all denominational and political backgrounds are welcome, because Tikkun Olam (“repairing the world”) applies to everyone.

The Jewish Business Students Association fosters Jewish life at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, offering cultural, social, religious, and educational activities to the Booth Jewish community, including partners, family, and friends. JBSA connects young adults across all University of Chicago graduate programs by providing resources and experiences that link them to one another and to the community.

The Jewish Law Students Association offers a wide range of programming to satisfy the diverse social, cultural, religious, and intellectual needs of Jewish students, and to introduce the Law School community to issues of importance to world Jewry, sponsoring speakers on issues such as the Arab-Israeli peace accords, hate crimes, church-state issues, civil rights, and Jewish legal topics.
