The UChicago Buddhist Association supports and coordinates Buddhist events and activities on the UChicago campus, the Hyde Park area, and the City of Chicago. General meetings are held once a month in Spiritual Life (Ida Noyes 034). Hyde Park Zen is a group of UChicago students and Hyde Park community members that meets weekly to sit for zazen meditation, dharma talks about our practice, and community discussion Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7:30pm. We are affiliated with Ancient Dragon Zen Gate, a Soto Zen temple located on the North Side, practicing in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki and lead by guiding teacher Taigen Dan Leighton. We welcome you to into our community regardless of your experience with zazen meditation or Zen practice, and would be glad to offer meditation instruction if desired! Please contact Alexander Peltz for more information.
Mindful Breath Community is a meditation group based on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and various other spiritual teachers, with a focus on supporting and growing community. We meet every Tuesday from 6-7:15 pm online. Our sessions include a 30 mins guided sitting meditation followed by 10 mins walking meditation, then a sharing and discussion. We also offer daily meditation online from 8:00-8:30am.
