Black Student Fellowship

The mission of Black Student Fellowship is to create a safe space and community for Black-Identifying UChicago students to explore and grow in their faith. We typically host weekly Bible studies on various topics related to Christianity and Blackness. We also host study breaks, volunteer events, and trips to various churches in Hyde Park and Chicago. Overall, we seek to connect with students and foster a greater sense of community and support on campus.

We are an ecumenical group of Christian students dedicated to bringing a Christian perspective to issues both on campus and in the world. Our goal is not to preach to non-Christians but to share our way of thinking and unique perspective. This is done through a yearly print journal released in the spring.

Canterbury Club at Brent House (Episcopal/Anglican)

The Canterbury Club is the student organization at Brent House, the Episcopal Center at the University of Chicago. On every Sunday throughout the academic year, Brent House has Eucharist at 5:30 pm, followed by a vegetarian home-cooked meal. Every Wednesday, Brent House is open for Afternoon Tea from 2:00-5:00 pm and Evening Prayer at 5:30 pm, followed by Brentsday dinner and events at 6:00 pm. The Canterbury Club is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, including those of all religious traditions (or no religious tradition) and people of all genders and sexual orientations.

In addition, we have an array of opportunities to serve and volunteer as mentor/tutor in our community in our after school program: Hope Scholars. Members of UChicago OCF attend various Orthodox churches throughout Chicago, but you’ll find most of us at St. Makarios Orthodox Mission in Hyde Park.

We are a group of Christian faculty, researchers, and graduate students who meet weekly to pray together and encourage one another. We begin by sharing joys, struggles, and concerns. We then read Psalms responsively before closing with a time of corporate, intercessory prayer. Once per quarter, we gather for a Sunday evening vesper service in Bond. We seek to build a campus community where Christians from all backgrounds can grow in Christ as they love, support, and encourage one another.
